About Dardishi Festival:
Dardishi Festival is a community-focused arts festival that showcases the cultural production of Arab and North African womxn*. The Festival is born out of Dardishi.com, an online publication run by Arab and North African womxn that exclusively platforms our contributions to contemporary art and culture. The publication was launched in March 2016 with the aim of strengthening creative collaboration between Arab and North African womxn, providing positive and diverse representation of ourselves in the arts, and creating opportunities that support and develop our professional and creative practices – aims that are carried into the Festival.
*Our use of the term womxn includes non-binary and intersex people and trans women.
What we are looking for in our volunteers?
We are looking for people:
- with a commitment to the values of inclusiveness and equality for all
- who are often marginalised from volunteering or working in the arts, for example: LGBTIQ+ people, people of colour, working class people, and people with disabilities
- with an interest in the arts
- who want to develop skills in team work and communication
- who are open-minded and want to learn
- who want to develop experience working in the arts and culture sectors
- who are interested in accessibility in the arts
What will volunteers do at Dardishi Festival?
Most of our volunteers will be part of the front of house team and responsible for the smooth running of events at the Festival. You will be welcoming audiences, overseeing monitoring and evaluation, answering queries and questions, promoting the Festival events, and assisting with the welcoming of artists and guests to the festival.
What is the required commitment of volunteers?
All shifts will take place at CCA Glasgow and will be 4 hours long with breaks. You must commit to a minimum of one shift. You will be working in teams and will have time to catch some of the events when you are on duty.
What access measures exist for volunteers?
Accessibility measures we will have in place for everyone attending the 2018 Festival include: our venue has good access for wheelchair users and those with other mobility issues; all films will screen with English language subtitles or captions; we have a large print programme available and large print audience feedback handouts; we will have comfy seating (bean bags) available; we will have a quiet space available at our venue throughout the Festival.
